Amiee Settles Down at LPGA Kingsmill
Thursday May 5, 2005
It was a rough start for "Big Break III" winner Danielle Amiee (photos) at the LPGA Michelob Ultra Open at Kingsmill on Thursday. Amiee's front nine included three bogeys, two double-bogeys and no birdies. She made the turn at 7-over before settling down on the back nine with just two bogeys and one birdie. With an 18-hole score of 79, Amiee managed not only to break 80 (not a given considering her competitive track record), but also avoided finishing tied for last place. Her score did tie her with Se Ri Pak, whose unexplained struggles continue.
Perhaps even more surprising: Amiee finished just three strokes behind Annika Sorenstam, who opened with a 76. Sorenstam has won the last five LPGA events she's entered and is attempting to set the record of six consecutive wins. See also: tournament home on LPGA.com
