USGA Seeking Volunteers for 2006 Women's Open
Tuesday March 1, 2005
The 2006 U.S. Women's Open will be played at historic Newport Country Club in Newport, R.I. If you're interested in going, here's a way you can get onto the course all seven days (three practice and pro-am days and four play days) for only $95: Join the volunteer crew helping the USGA run the event.
Volunteer applications are now available for the tournament. Tournament week will run June 26-July 2, 2006. Says the USGA: "Volunteers can choose to work on one of more than 20 committees, including admissions, course evacuation, leaderboards, transportation/airport greeters and merchandise. Early submission of applications allows volunteers to specify their preference regarding their committee choice."
If you're chosen to serve during the tournament, you'll be required to spend $95 on a "volunteer package," which includes a uniform, a credential valid for all seven days of the championship, and complimentary meals while working.
Volunteer applications can be downloaded at www.2006uswomensopen.com.
