Europe is off to a fast start at the Ryder Cup, dominating the morning fourball matches with three wins and a halve. Team USA captain Hal Sutton's gambit of pairing Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson and sending them out first backfired. The super duo went down early and never seriously challenged Padraig Harrington and Colin Montgomerie. The American duo of Chris Riley and Stewart Cink salvaged a tie in the final fourball match, keeping the U.S. from being shut out.
