David Duval's Return
Sunday May 16, 2004
How much longer will David Duval stay away from the PGA Tour? Not much longer, according to reports ...
In his column for Golf World, John Hawkins writes that Duval is expected to return to the Tour prior to the U.S. Open. That gives Duval just a few more weeks.
Duval hasn't played a Tour event since late last year, his severe tumble from the top of the golf world well-chronicled. Duval's 2003 season was miserable, as he missed the cut in nearly every tournament he entered.
Physical problems led to changes in his swing, which led to poor golf, which led to poor thoughts, which exacerbated all the problems. A downward spiral that just keeps spiraling. Sometimes it spirals completely out of control - see Ian Baker Finch - and sometimes the golfer manages to stop the slide and right the ship.
If Duval can make it all the way back, this will truly become a golden age for golf. With Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh, Phil Mickelson and Ernie Els already at full power, and Sergio Garcia appearing to be close, a return to form by Duval would be icing on the cake. Duval, remember, is the only golfer in the Tiger Woods era who has been consistently better than Tiger for any appreciable length of time.
Hawkins' article takes a look at the few tournaments between now and the U.S. Open and hazards a guess as to where Duval's return might come. You can read the article here.

I think he can win if two things occure. 1. If he REALLY wants to & 2.
If he believs he REALLY can. He hasn’t so far. That’s what his problem is now. He’s got the game. I’m pulling for him.
