Divnick Switches to "Family Friendly" Name for Driver
Thursday April 8, 2004
Divnick Golf recently introduced a series of high-lofted drivers with what is, shall we say, an interesting name. An attention-getting name. Now the company has realized that not all that attention was good - the driver's name was driving away some potential customers. So Divnick has now introduced an alternatively branded driver.
The original name of the driver was ... Big Dick. The women's version was called Big Jane. Fun with Dick and Jane - get it?
It was also a bit racy, perfectly prepared for off-color jokes and, to some, off-putting.
Steve Divnick, President and CEO of Divnick Golf said, "We received tremendous attention and interest in The Big Dick and Big Jane drivers at the PGA merchandise, however from the feedback we received at the PGA Show, we knew we needed a family-friendly name. "
So Divnick Golf is now offering the same drivers, but with a choice of names. "Big Dick" is still available, but now consumers have the option of going with the "Big Stik" instead.
"There is still a significant demand for the Big Dick," Divnick said (probably with a smile). "Our customers are placing follow-up orders as gifts, and the word-of-mouth referrals are great. But we want to appeal to all segments of the global marketplace. We don't want the name to get in the way of this great club."
