Lamkin Launches "Grips for Life" Program

Monday February 2, 2004
Golf grips manufacturer Lamkin is making an effort to raise funds - and awareness - to fight prostate cancer. The company has pledged to raise at least $1 million a year for the next five years, and will be working with Arnold Palmer and the Prostate Cancer Foundation in the "Grips for Life" program. For details ...

A news release from Lamkin heralds the program and provides all the details:

Lamkin Makes a Significant Commitment To Fight Prostate Cancer
San Diego, CA - Lamkin, the respected manufacturer of quality golf grips, announced that the company will partner with Arnold Palmer and the Prostate Cancer Foundation in the effort to fight the devastating disease of prostate cancer. Lamkin has made a five-year pledge to raise at least one million dollars to help fund the Prostate Cancer Foundation's research initiatives in its quest to find new treatments and cures.

Palmer, who has played and endorsed Lamkin grips for some 40 years, is a prostate cancer survivor and an active participant in the campaign to conquer a disease that strikes more than 220,000 men a year. In the time it takes to play a round of golf, 18 men will lose their battle with prostate cancer. Lamkin is determined to do its part with the hope of reversing this statistic.

"At Lamkin, we believe golf is one of life's great pleasures," said President and CEO Bob Lamkin, who is passionate about his company's pledge to make a difference. "As committed as we are to this game, we’re even more committed to this community. That's why we’re resolved to fighting a disease that will affect one in six golfers. We are doing what we believe is our duty-giving something back."

Lamkin will donate a percentage of after-market regrip sales of its products to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, the world's largest philanthropic source of support for prostate cancer research. The company invites golfers, distributors, retailers and club makers to join them in this worthy cause. "When you regrip your clubs, we hope you select the company with a head for innovation and a heart for hope," Lamkin further stated.

"The Prostate Cancer Foundation is very pleased to have the support of Lamkin, one of golf’s leading manufacturers," said senior vice president of corporate alliances, Scott Harvey. "Lamkin is earnest in its desire to join us in our efforts to fight prostate cancer, the most common non-skin cancer in America. Their five-year commitment to strive to raise at least one million dollars for research funds is a most welcome goal. Lamkin also is an active partner with the Arnie's Army Battles Prostate Cancer grassroots golf club campaign. The Prostate Cancer Foundation is equally proud of its affiliation with this important program that counts the legendary Palmer as its honorary chairman."
