The USGA has announced some new parameters for the testing of golf balls. This article from Golf World magazine is a good look at the details. The changes in the testing procedure are interesting, but it sounds as if they won't have that much of an impact on which balls are ruled conforming and which aren't.
The changes have to do with the venerable "Iron Byron" robot tester employed by the USGA to test new equipment. It's so-called because its swing speed was modeled after that of Byron Nelson - and even in 2003, it's still using equipment Byron would have used, namely a persimmon driver.
Or it was, anyway, until now. Read the article to learn more about the changes.
A lot of folks who've looked at the issue of distance explosion focus on the balls, not the clubs. Jack Nicklaus, for one, believes limitations need to be set on ball performance.
That contrasts with Tiger Woods' recent requests for the testing of drivers being used on the PGA Tour.

What a lot of bunk there is about golf balls. ProV1? If this ball was so great then why does Tger VJ Mickelson Furic not Couples play with them? The reason is there is no difference between a ProV1, Callaway,Srixon, Nike Wilson Bridgstone or any other ball that conforms with the ball standards or should I say they all fly to the maximum alowed by the standard.
